Meet Melanie Holmes!

Hi, I’m Melanie Holmes, a dog trainer with a deep passion for behavior modification and a love for the great outdoors. For over a decade, I’ve dedicated my life to understanding and enhancing the bond between dogs and their owners.

My approach to training is all about balance—creating harmony between a dog’s instincts and the needs of their human companions. Whether it’s solving complex behavioral issues or guiding a young pup’s first steps, I’m here to make the journey smoother for both of you.

Outside of training, I’m an adventurer at heart. You’ll often find me hiking trails, camping under the stars, or working alongside one of my personal dogs. These experiences shape my perspective and reinforce my belief in the incredible potential of every dog.

Services

Behavior Consultation

• During the Stay: Your dog will be taken out by the trainer for 2-3 sessions during their stay. These sessions allow the trainer to observe your dog’s behavior and begin forming a connection. Afterward, you’ll receive a detailed assessment of the trainer’s observations, along with personalized training recommendations to best suit your dog’s needs. Price $75.00
• Appointment Based: Bring your dog to our facility for a face-to-face consultation with the trainer. We’ll discuss any unwanted behaviors, your lifestyle, and goals for your dog. The trainer will also observe your dog’s behavior on-site, providing a tailored training plan based on our discussion and observations. Price $100.00

Educational Sessions

• Pick the Trainer’s Brain: Available in 30-minute increments, up to 90 minutes. Whether you’re a first-time dog owner, have a new puppy, or simply have questions about your dog’s behavior, this session is for you. Conducted over the phone or in person (without your dog), it’s an opportunity to gain insights, ask questions, and deepen your understanding of your dog’s behavior. Please note this is not a hands-on training session; it’s purely educational and conversational. Price $45.00/per 30 min

One-on-One Lessons

• On-Site: Enjoy a private, one-hour lesson with the trainer, tailored to your specific needs and goals. Lessons are sold in packages of three. For dogs with a bite history, an initial consultation is required, along with a minimum commitment of two lesson packages. Price $240/package
• In-Home: Get personalized training with a one-hour private lesson conducted in your home or at a nearby public park. These sessions are designed to address your unique needs and goals. Lessons are sold in packages of five. All in-home training requests require an initial in-person consultation. Price $500.00/package

Board and Train Programs: Your dog will stay with us at Dogwood, where they’ll receive focused training over the course of their stay. You’ll discuss with the trainer your goals to come up with retreat length to achieve your desired results. Both puppy retreats and obedience for adult dogs are available. Retreats include leashes and/or walking collars. Any electronic collar training will require an additional cost to cover the collar.

For dogs with a bite history or requiring behavior modification, a minimum stay of 3 weeks is required, with cases handled individually.

Add On Fun for Boarding – Any dog is welcome to add on a 30+ minute playtime with the trainer during their stay. These sessions are meant for enrichment and to lessen the stress of staying away from home. These are not formal training sessions! Sessions may include walks, fetch, nose games, tricks, & puzzles etc. Minimum session time 30 minutes @ $1.00 minute.
